Katie and Nick came all the way from Belgium to celebrate their elopement wedding in Iceland. They rented a camper van to adventure around Iceland during their time here, and Katie decided to do her own makeup and prep. These two (very cool) decisions meant that we had tons of flexibility when it came to timelines and locations. I love couples who travel by camper van; they always seem to be the most adventurous and ready for anything that comes their way!
One thing they knew they wanted, was to exchange vows for their Iceland wedding in an intimate place without being disturbed by tourists. I was quick to suggest Helgufoss Waterfall, a small but charming waterfall just 20 minutes from Reykjavík. Helgufoss is a gorgeous, very intimate place where you might find some locals hiking, or a few curious visitors that veered off the main road. Especially during sunset, it’s just a place you can’t help but fall in love with. I think the pictures can do the talking, but take a look and see for yourself! The happy overlapping of the river, the sunlight, the waterfall, the slightly snowy mountains, and of course the beautiful couple made for what I would call the “perfect combo”.
Katie chose a drop-dead beautiful black dress for the special occasion. She told me that ever since she got engaged, she knew she wasn’t going to follow the conventional methods of getting married. I would say an Iceland wedding fits the bill for that. She knew they wanted to do their wedding their own way. After exchanging vows and spending some intimate time just enjoying each other's company during their wedding, we decided to explore the area. It was so much fun being able to work with them.
Many couples come to me and tell me that they are shy or that they are going to need help with posing because they aren’t sure how. Well, Katie and Nick had the same worry in the beginning. I told them that the only thing they needed to do was to be themselves, don’t be afraid to get silly, don’t be shy to hug and kiss, and most importantly have a good time. It’s actually way easier than you think! And most of the time, the only thing I do is observe you, observe the light, and give you very general instructions. This ensures that all of the very special ingredients are well mixed, that way something unique and stunning comes out just for you!
