After spending a week on a sailboat in Greenland, I felt a deep urge to share my experiences from this trip. It honestly took me a couple of weeks to process everything and truly accept that it wasn't just a dream. I may come across as overly enthusiastic, but trust me, neither photos, videos, nor any words can adequately capture the sheer vastness and beauty of Greenland's landscapes.
Scoresby Sund (Kangertittivaq) holds the distinction of being the world's largest fjord, spanning over 350 km and plunging to depths of around 1500 meters into the sea. Situated on the east coast of Greenland, roughly a two-hour flight from Iceland, this fjord encompasses a multitude of islands, untamed nature, and breathtaking glaciers.
Ittoqqortoormiit is the primary and sole human settlement in the region, quite possibly one of the world's most remote villages, situated near the fjord's mouth.
This incredible journey was organized by The Laid Back Company, and we sailed on boats provided by North Sailing, accompanied by their exceptional crew. My primary objective for this expedition was photography. As you may already know, in 2024, we are expanding our services to include new destinations for weddings and adventure elopements, and Greenland is one of them.
We are thrilled to introduce our comprehensive 'Greenland Elopement Photography' package. This marks our fourth visit to this remarkable destination, and I can confidently declare that Greenland is a perfect setting for an adventure wedding. It's a land of wilderness, grandeur, beauty, isolation, and home to unique cultures and traditions, unlike anywhere else on Earth. When combined with our expertise as Greenland wedding planners and photographers, it becomes an extraordinary experience if you choose this island as your wedding destination.
One of the major attractions of exploring Greenland by sailboat is the ability to easily switch locations and navigate through its fjords. Greenland lacks traditional roads, and the Inuit people rely on dog sleds, boats, and planes for transportation when needed. Sailing on vessels like Hildur or Opal from North Sailing allowed us to explore a variety of places and regions within just one week.
Greenland is not just known for its landscapes but also boasts abundant fauna and flora. One of the standout moments of the trip was witnessing a polar bear swimming in the Arctic Ocean – undoubtedly one of my most cherished memories ever. Another highlight was the 'city of icebergs,' a channel within the fjord where icebergs, originating from the world's largest glacier, converge due to ocean currents. It's nothing short of spectacular. And I must emphasize once more that photographs don't even begin to capture the pure essence of this place.
To keep this from becoming too lengthy, I'm saving some details for another post. In it, I'll walk you through each day of our journey, share everything we did, and provide a multitude of ideas for couples considering the option of getting married in Greenland!
