HONEYMOON in REYNISFJARA

A couple, she has a red dress, him in red and black, lay on a black sand beach during honeymoon Photo Shoot with Iceland Wedding Photographer, Lia Photo Stories.

Nicole and David, having recently exchanged vows in the United States, sought to fulfill their dreams of an Icelandic honeymoon. For Nicole, the allure and dream of wearing her wedding dress again and wandering Reynisfjara beach were simply irresistible. Their untraditional choice of wedding attire created stunning contrasts, with her vibrant red dress complementing the black sand and imposing rock formations. To ensure an intimate and picturesque honeymoon photo shoot, we made sure to get there before dawn and were lucky to watch the sunrise over the sea with the beach to ourselves.

Our journey continued to our second location, the iconic Dyrhólaey. The views from Dyrhólaey are just incredible, where Iceland’s ever-changing moods really seem to paint the landscape. We actually were able to witness an infamous Iceland weather mood-swing, watching it change several times from rainy to sunny in just one hour. We did this honeymoon photo session at the beginning of April and made sure to spend a while on the cliffs looking for any signs of early arriving Puffins. However, it was still too soon, and they have not made their way here, quite yet, to grace us with their presence. I am eagerly awaiting their return, so excited to capture about a thousand photos of them!

As the honeymoon session drew to a close, Nicole and David chose to embrace a more relaxed vibe by changing into casual attire. This marked the perfect ending to their unforgettable honeymoon session. While Reynisfjara Beach remains one of Iceland's most sought-after locations for weddings, elopements, and photo shoots, we often encourage our clients to also explore the lesser-known, less crowded gems that Iceland has to offer. Places like Reynisfjara are tourist destinations for a reason; they are truly spectacular, but that makes it nearly impossible to capture photos without tons of people in the background. Being an Iceland Wedding Photographer and typically going to public places, I can easily photoshop some people out of your photos, but not when there are hundreds! So, when someone wants to go there for a photo shoot, of course, we will go, but to strike a balance between capturing the natural beauty of the site and ensuring an intimate experience, we recommend early morning or late evening visits, allowing for tranquil moments that will forever be etched in your memories.

Inevitably, discussions about Reynisfjara Beach would be incomplete without mentioning its iconic companion, the wind. While Iceland is known for its gusty nature, this particular beach seems to be a little more on the intense side. Though the wind itself isn’t too bad, when coupled with cold and rain, it can feel a little unbearable. A touch of mental preparation and a warm, cozy garment that you can also take pictures in, will ensure your comfort throughout the shoot. So don’t let the weather hold you back; instead, get ready to embrace the Icelandic charm, where we can combine love and adventure, with each unforgettable moment captured by our lens.
