Amber and Scott came from the United States this past autumn to celebrate their Iceland Elopement. I love to see how every time more and more people decide to get married in a different way, how they decide to go for the adventure and to be faithful to themselves.
The day started raining a little bit (of course, it’s Iceland) at Glacier View Guesthouse where they got ready. While Amber was doing her makeup, Gerard and I were looking for the best spot close to the guesthouse to capture the magical first look. And what a first look they had! I have to confess, first looks and proposals are my forever favorite moments with my couples and yes, I always cry a little bit.
Then we started our trip to the village of Vík, where they had the perfect ceremony, celebrated by Sigurður, the best humanist officiant we know! Surrounded by cliffs, huge sea rocks and an endless black sand beach, they officially got married.
We couldn’t not stop at Reynisfjara to see the impressive basalt columns, but it was just a quick stop. We had a long day coming and they were so excited for what was to come!
Next stop: Stjórnarfoss. A perfect and hidden waterfall in a beautiful canyon. The weather was behaving very well and the wind had almost disappeared, so we decided to fly the drone. After contemplating the beauty of this place for a long time, we decided to continue our road trip.
One of Iceland's most stunning rock formations is Dverghamrar or The Dwarf Cliffs. The cliffs are hexagonal columns of basalt shaped like a horseshoe. Inside the cliffs are home to both dwarfs and elves, according to folklore, and quite a number of Icelanders still believe it to be true!
After visiting the elves and the dwarfs, we drove directly to Jökulsárlón. The glacier lagoon with its big icebergs, melting from the biggest glacier in Iceland, and going directly to the ocean for ever. It is a really special place and no wonder why it is one of the most famous places in Iceland.
And finally, the last stop of this amazing journey, the famous and stunning Diamond Beach. It is true that I’ve seen this beach empty of icebergs and other times full of them. That day it wasn’t the best day for Diamond Beach, but anyway we could find some cool ice formations and took these amazing goodbye pictures.
